Exhibition of owls

The collection of owls (given by Ferenc Horváth) had the opening ceremony on 4 April, 2022. The owl was Pallas Athéné’ saint animal in Greek mythology, symbolized wisdom and knowledge.

Ferenc Horváth is an impassioned collector, his collection of owls is made up more than 100 pieces. It started with a present which was an owl 20 years ago, and from that point it has continued with different kind of owls made by glass, wood and other materials. There are some plushes as well, and from Mexico, Spain or Thailand.

Ferenc Horváth from 1986 to 2013 was the leader of Erzsébet Galgóczi City Library, directed more exhibitions from his collection and organised owl collectors’ meetings. He decided that his collection would find a better home instead of boxes at his house. He gave his collection to two places: the beloved Géza Gárdonyi Primary School, Győr inhareted one-half, and the orther half had given to our library. Our library’s kabala is also an owl, BOOKI, that’s why he gave it to us.

The collection of owls are in the second floor , and plush-owls are in the Kids Corner.

The exhibition is open and freely visited in the opening hours of the library.
