Széchenyi István University, University Library as higher education, technical and public library ensures the necessary literature, collection, databases and informational supply for academic work, research and scientific studies. It works as a public technical library on the specialties defined in its collection and provides services to everyone, who accepts the library's regulation of use.
1. Data from the library's activity in 2009.
1.1. The value of stock increase
The library's stock was increased by 7881 pieces of documents, 37 773 000 Ft. On 31st December 2009 the library's substance altogether contains 296 018 documents in 621 786 352 Ft of value. In 2009 the number of obtained documents decreased compared to the last year. The first reason is the elevation of the price of books, the other is the year subscription of journals overran to the year, 2010. The previously mentioned things made the planning of the budget much more difficult. The average price of the purchased documents was 6.260 Ft which means a 20% price increase, meaning the documents were more expensive in 2009 than in 2008.
1.1.1. Resources of stock increase
Resources of library's stock increase are combined of the 27 969 000 Ft. From this amount 12 000 000 Ft obligatory budget was guaranteed by the university; the remaining 10 000 000 Ft came from documents, theses and PhD from papers that have assessed value.
1.1.2. The distribution of the value of the library's stock increase:
16 225 911 Ft was spent on books, cartography, musical, electronic documents and standards in the past year, 21 547 089 Ft on journal subscription, the amount which we spent on databases reached the 4 000 000 Ft. The amount spent on the books and journals decreased compared to 2008. From 2009 online databases should be paid according to the consortium agreement however previously the Educational Ministry supplied the subscriptions.

We deleted 14 403 pieces of document from the library's collection, in the value of 4 620 223 Ft. So the number of the documents decreased compared to 2008 because of the large-scale selection.
Our library has one of the most valuable standard collections. In the past year we bought standards for 1 000 000 Ft.

Most databases are available on the university's area for all tutors, students, instructors and experts. Increasingly more people started to use these databases mainly the more academic databases. From the instructors' part the technical, law and economic databases are the most popular. The databases which can be reached currently deals with economy, finance, statistics, nature, social science and technical science. In these databases it is possible either to read full texts or bibliographic data.

The number of the current journals is high. The subscribed journals were reviewed. A survey was made in different departments about the needs and usage of journals. New journals appeared as the result of the survey. These are primarily with a vocational character, but a claim was made by the students to order a few popular weekly and monthly newspapers.

Altogether we ordered 183 types of periodicals for the university's faculties, departments and other units. The half of the ordered journals is in a foreign language.

Registered users are those, who visited the library at least one time. Newly registered readers are those who were enrolled in the past year. This number is very good if we take into consideration that 2 291 new listeners came to the university in September. University library is a public library, from the newly registered users 357 people are not Széchenyi István University students. From all registered users 1 930 people are exterior readers this number is higher 20% than in the last year.

The number of the lent documents showed a downward tendency in the past year, at the same time local usage grew more than 3 000, internet usage also increased more than 4 000.

Our inter library loan became really active in the past years. It has increased in 2008 compared to the last year but it doubled in 2009. Our tutors, researchers often ask documents from foreign countries for their scientific and academic works, but the expenses should be paid by claimants. It occurred many times that the bank expense was higher, than the sum asked for the lending or sending a copy.
