Loaning, extention and preannouncement

LOANING

Loaning from the libraries of the ULA network is possible in person with a valid enrolment. (Only locally usable documents are available in the Library of the DF.) The enroled reader is financially responsible for the borrowed documents (books, notes, sheet music etc.).

All enroled readers may borrow documents from the library's collection according to their status as a reader, subject to the rules of library loan.

Documents that cannot be borrowed:

  • Encyclopaedias, data files;
  • Dictionaries and reference books;
  • Journals and newspapers;
  • Theses and dissertations;
  • Doctoral dissertations;
  • Museum documents

The books, printed theses, journals, and doctoral dissertations held in the Central Library's closed stack can be consulted after filling in a stock request form. A storage request form can be requested from the Information Librarian on the first floor of the Central Library or filled in and handed in.

Loaning may be denied to that user:

  • a document with an expired loan period;
  • who has not paid the overdue fee;
  • who does not have a valid library membership;
  • who has not paid for a library card that has not been cancelled;
  • who is in serious breach of the ULA Library User Regulations.

The borrowed document must be returned by the end of the loan period, or the loan period must be extended.

EXTENTION

The loan period of a borrowed document may be extended once before the expiration of the loan period, but not later than on the day of expiration.

  • In person;
  • By e-mail;
  • By phone.

Online (By logging into the library's online catalogue with your username and password, or via the eCard phone app.)

The loan period cannot be extended if:

  • the book has a subscription;
  • if the book has been reserved for a book, if the reservation has expired;
  • the reader is in arrears with a late fee;
  • the loan has already been extended once;
  • borrowed a book with a red stripe.

A late fee will be charged for documents returned after the loan period has expired. The amount of the late fee is the amount of the arrears of fees accrued during the opening days (see: Fees).

A reminder email will be sent three days before the loan period expires, and a reminder email will be sent three days after the loan period expires.

PREANNOUNCEMENT

Readers with a valid enrolment may reserve a book borrowed by another user by logging into the online catalogue or by visiting the library in person. The library will notify the reader by email of the receipt of the document. The document on hold will be kept by the library service for 8 working days. After this period, the item will be put back on the shelf and will be available for loan.
